Squeezing Lemons

There are
people
Who will make you feel
Like
A dry lemon
Sliced in half
Turned
upside down
Over
The ribs
Of a hand juicer.

You’ll never work alone

Limp brained,
heavy eyed,
who knew
you would
once
rejoice
in working
alone.

Missing you

It’s been months and months
And years and years since
Smiles danced in our eyes
But I passed you a cup of tea.

It’s been months and months
And years and years since
We spoke and spoke
But I could never find the words.

It’s been months and months
And years and years since
You were my best friend
But you would never know.

And it’s been months and months
And years and years since
We disappointed each other
But now we are too busy to find out why.

It’s been months and months
And years and years since
I’ve thought of you like this.

I miss you.
But mostly I miss the woman
I was then.

Unclenched.

Someday
The clenched fist
In her chest
Where once
A heart
Beat
Untrodden
Will be
Made of
Sturdier stuff.
